Memeland is a Web 3.0-focused venture studio created by the 9GAG team which has built up a monthly audience of more than 200 million across its various social media platforms. Since its founding in February 2022, it has launched a total of three collections: ‘YOU THE REAL MVP,’ ‘The Potatoz,’ and ‘The Captainz.’
9GAG, based in Hong Kong, is the Web 2.0 mainstay social media website. It’s a humorous community website that has established a strong presence on most major social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.

The key concept revolves around “an adventure setting sail from BROKEN SEA in search of the treasure island ‘Memeland’, home to glory, prosperity, love and the finest memes’’. In keeping with the narrative, the project has unveiled its signature collection, ‘The Captainz’. The collection employs terms like Treasure Mapz and Treasure Bags in the event and utility aspects, inspiring holders to immerse themselves further into the ecosystem.

As it stands, apart from the ‘Stage’ attribute which is related to ‘Questing’, and its soft-staking system, there’s only a singular ‘Type’ attribute. NFTs with attributes signifying partnership project names are faring well in the trading market, attracting relatively high prices.

- In a departure from traditional methods, the team opted not to sell on a separate mint page. Instead, they chose to send NFTs directly to buyers in return for an Ethereum deposit into the team’s wallet, providing a more streamlined and direct transaction process.
- However, the bear market sentiment prevalent at the time and the steep price point set (5.3 ETH) resulted in actual purchases by blind auction winners falling short of expectations. Only approximately 170 out of 300 winners went on to complete their purchases.
- In response, the team adjusted its strategy, pivoting to a Discord private sale for members, followed by a public sale.
- However, when Phase 1 didn’t sell out, another strategic pivot was made. The Phase 2 public sale was called off, and the mint process concluded by distributing the remaining supply among moderators, advisors, and the team to add up the reserve. At this stage, users who expressed an interest in purchasing were still given the opportunity to participate.
